Wood & Steel

The Spot

Get ready for this one. In fact, grab a lifesaver. Ok, jokes aside, located conveniently near Marina South Pier, you will find the mighty Stewards Riverboat. The riverboat houses two eateries. The Santa Fe Tex Mex Grill which is a very homely, cowboy-themed family restaurant and the Wood & Steel gastro bar, which pretty much has a self-explanatory name. Wood & Steel is situated on the topmost deck of the riverboat thus giving you an alfresco-esque dining experience. Not to mention, the riverboat doubles up as a venue for private functions!

What I Had

Their menu mainly consists of bar bites, pizza, sumptuous platters to whet your appetite and of course a wide array of beers & liquors.

To start off, I ordered the Cajun Calamari ($10) and Garlic-Parmesan Wings ($10).

Usually, I find, calamari is more or less 80% fried batter and 20% actual squid but this was so satisfying and even managed to be crunchy on the outside while being soft on the inside. The Garlic-Parmesan Wings were super tasty too with wings coated in parmesan, it was definitely packed with a punch.

For mains, I got the Herbie’s Lamb ($29) & Tripartite Burger ($29). The Herbie’s Lamb consisted of succulent lamb racks laid onto amazingly fluffy mashed potatoes accompanied by black pepper sauce. While the Tripartite Burger comprised of 3 different little burgers, it was certainly quite filling.

Having come back a second time (just cos it’s THAT good), I ordered the Meat Glory combo platter ($89) which came along with a Red Wine sauce, an Onion Sambal dip & my favourite of the bunch, a Blue Cheese dressing.

The platter consists of a lovely pan-seared Ribeye, slow-roasted pork belly, the succulent herb-crusted lamb racks, honey-brined chicken breast, along with chicken & beef sausages and a heavenly truffle mash potatoes.

What I Loved

Luckily for me, I was not easily prone to seasickness so I was able to still chow down my meal while the boat constantly swayed. Apart from that, the atmosphere is amazing, with a live band to serenade you the blues, you definitely might feel like you really are just about to set sail off into the night.
