Usually in the heart of Marina Bay, one would stray off in the direction of the Esplanade or even towards Marina Bay Sands to soak in the sights and sounds of the evening. Growing weary of the usual atmosphere, I trailed towards Millenia Walk. There I found an entire stretch of floor catered to Japanese food lovers. Eventually, I found myself in an elegant ramen bar with the ambience of a fine dining bistro offering diners both ramen and a long list of spirits.
What I Had
Taking a cue from the menu, I had to try one of their bestsellers, which of course is named the Uma Uma Ramen ($16). The ramen is topped with black fungus, flavourful soft-boiled eggs, and generous chunks of chasiu. Safe to say this one really made my tummy feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
The Spicy Chasiu ($16) which my boyfriend ordered, was a spicy soup base filled with chunks of chasiu with chilli oil, leeks and of course flavourful soft-boiled eggs. For those wondering ‘Is it really that spicy?’. I, personally wouldn’t be jumping for water, but the heat is definitely present and actually quite pleasant.
For sides, we got the Beef Tare ($5.50 per stick) which honestly was a tad bit pricey for me. Even though the meat had just a hint of smokiness and was cooked to perfection, I doubt I would get it a second time round.
What I Loved
Apart from the really great service and the cosy ambience, I would say the portions of their dishes really surprised me. Most ramens don’t really have the best broths, but here you will find yourself slurping everything down till the last drop. Furthermore, they claim to have 100% MSG-free, naturally umami-rich ingredients, which sure is an added bonus.
